ESR Sonia Recinos Brizuela has just co-authored a paper that has been published in the journal Ecological Indicators: Connectivity as a driver of river-floodplain functioning: A dynamic, graph theoretic approach

The paper was also  co-authored by i-CONN members Thomas Hein and Andrea Funk.

This study shows that using a graph theoretic approach is a promising innovative indicator tool to characterise the ecological functioning of floodplain systems by characterising and quantifying the position of water bodies as well as the main transport pathways in a system. In a meta- ecosystem view, it is especially relevant as it quantifies the interaction of local and regional processes that influence the dynamics of environmental conditions and, consequently, the distribution of organisms in a landscape.
